We thought so. This photograph was taken shortly after we had taken over the space and wired in strip lighting. The location had previously been used for storage, as you can see, so we had to clear it in readiness for the facility to be prepared. Over the next month a group of skilled, local volunteers completely re-fitted the location to make it a secure area in which to store the village archives and a pleasant environment to use for private research. Our first job was to level the stepped floor. The Centre needed electrical supply for computers etc., so concealing the cabling between the new floor joists was a prime concern. Secondly, we needed a dividing wall with a lockable door for security, and finally, carpet, decorating, sturdy shelves, and furniture will finish this stage of our operation. So how far have we got? |
